Building Trust Through Horses
Every Child Deserves to Be Valued & Empowered
For many kids in our community, a lack of confidence is holding them back from reaching their full potential. But when they connect with horses, something unlocks. The barn becomes the place they feel safe, capable, and seen. That’s why we exist.
With a relationship-based approach to horsemanship, children don’t just ride horses at Horse Sense for Kids. They build relationships with our horses through grooming, unmounted activities, and riding.
Along the way, they learn responsibility, patience, and confidence that extend far beyond the barn and into their daily lives.
By providing a safe, supportive environment and meaningful experiences with horses, we help create lasting change in the lives of hundreds of children and youth each year. You can help make that transformation possible.
“Watching my 9-year-old handle an animal far bigger than her is an amazing sight. She is a very quiet, shy girl who has been searching for a special place to belong. Since joining the horsemanship program, I have seen so much growth in her confidence and sense of identity.
She has worked so hard to conquer her personal fears and is learning to face new challenges as she continues to grow in the program. This program has given a very quiet, shy girl an opportunity to shine!”

“Until grade 5, I was extremely quiet in groups. I didn’t ask questions at school. I would wait for teachers to notice me doing nothing, and when they asked what was wrong, I would tell them I didn’t understand. I was afraid of dogs and doing things without a grown-up.
Then I went to the After-School Program at Horse Sense for Kids, and I changed. Knowing I had a responsibility to work together to get the work done made me speak up, ask questions and give directions.
My parents say I grew – not taller but braver, more confident and responsible, which is true, but I did get taller too.”
