Our Story

A Place Where Kids Feel They Belong

Rob and Brenda Langendoen are passionate about creating a sanctuary where youth feel accepted, cared for, and empowered. For Brenda, horses were never just something to ride. Growing up, she didn’t always feel like she fit into typical social molds, and the barn became a place where she felt connected and accepted.

Horses gave her a safe place to face fears, work through insecurities, and discover strengths she didn’t know she had. They helped her find confidence and the courage to take on challenges she once thought were beyond her reach.

“Horses have a way of helping children see strengths in themselves they didn’t know were there. Every child deserves the chance to experience that.”
— Brenda Langendoen, Founder

A Desire to Share the Magic

Brenda was fortunate to grow up in a middle-class home with access to opportunities and supportive programs. As she became more involved in her community, she began to realize that many youth facing adversity do not have access to the same opportunities. Without those experiences, it can be difficult for young people to see new possibilities for themselves.

Brenda believed horses could help change that. Through her passion for horses and her desire to share their quiet wisdom with youth who needed it most, Horse Sense for Kids was created.

Growing the Vision

What began as a small grassroots effort at the farm gradually grew as families, community organizations, and supporters saw the impact horses were having on children.

Today, Horse Sense for Kids provides opportunities for youth across Niagara to experience the confidence, connection, and growth that horses can inspire.

Through hands-on experiences with horses, children learn responsibility, patience, empathy, and resilience, skills that stay with them long after they leave the barn.

Looking Ahead

Horse Sense for Kids continues to grow with the support of our community, volunteers, partners, donors, and families who believe in the power of horses to help children thrive.

Together, we are creating a place where children can discover their strengths, build confidence, and experience the hope that comes from feeling truly connected.
